Tuscan Villa

Tasked with nudging this 1800s Tuscan home into the 21st century, we set about thoughtfully reimagining the four- bedroom farmhouse, a string of outbuildings and newly built pool house.  As always, we started by establishing what feeling was required; in this case it needed to be a soulful, warm and friendly house that would marry the tastes of its Italian and American husband-and-wife owners. The main house became a sanctum for the owners, with an intimate dining room and relaxed living spaces, including a kitchen, sitting room and snug downstairs, plus four bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs. Craftsmanship and a thoughtful approach to materials underpin the project – from working with local artisans to create textural, frescoed walls to collaborating with Rome-based rattan makers to create furniture. Where possible materials found in the house were saved and sensitively reused.  Inspired by the local landscape, the palette spans from dark to light, responding to the views outside each room. A television room in rich, deep plum tones took its cues from the pomegranate trees in the garden, while the light-filled kitchen and sitting room feature artfully layered whites and blues.
