The owners of this spacious five bedroom house in Berkshire had a tremendous flair for fun and an appetite for design that they wanted their home to reflect. Originally an Arts and Crafts house, it had been unsympathetically added to over time, resulting in a discombobulated dark warren of rooms. The team's job was primarily to make the various spaces work for the family.

The entrance hall was completely remodelled with new stairs and windows to open up the space and bring daylight in to the centre of the building.

There was a little corridor space that ran off the kitchen, which the design team decided to make in to a bar, and several doors in the drawing room, which meant there were no cosy corners to tuck yourself away in. One door was shut off and replaced with a window seat and a round window looking out over the garden.

The family room was another reconfigured space that had the ceiling opened up and added panelling to along with a new fireplace. A number of vintage textiles were layered in here and combined with pieces from all eras and price points.

Furniture and decorative items throughout the house are a mix of antiques and newly crafted pieces from of some of our favourite English makers, including Christopher Howe, Max Rollitt, Soane, Rosi di Ruig and Mathew Cox, as well as, of course, our beloved Christine Van Der Hurd.
