The owners of the 350-acre Beaverbrook Estate brought us in to transform the Garden House from a tired, characterless residential property that had been rented out for decades into a five-star hotel.
We reconnected the building to its history and location, respectfully reimagining its original purpose as a gardener’s cottage within a walled working kitchen garden, hidden away from the main house. The layout was reconfigured to accommodate a bar, restaurant and cookery school, as well as a new orangery that feels as if it has always been there.
To create a hotel that feels elegant, authentic, romantic and timeless, we layered in period detailing throughout. Block colours mixed with patterns and clever combinations of furniture, old and new, evoke a feeling of walking into the much-loved home of a favourite and rather eccentric aunt.
Commissioning original botanical sketches, and sourcing reclaimed materials, antiques and textiles to conjure a rich sense of time and place. Each of the 14 bedrooms shares a common handwriting yet has its own distinct character and charm. With all the latest creature comforts that discerning guests expect.
To ensure the house feels intimately connected to its outside space as well as the tranquil woodland views beyond, we worked closely with the estate’s gardeners to design a kitchen garden that guests could enjoy throughout the year.
The garden also supplies the Beaverbrook and its three restaurants with an abundance of fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs and cut flowers.
