Wishing you a very Happy International Women’s Day. I will be celebrating by acknowledging the talent of all the brilliant women I know and by being thankful that the design industry enables us to fly high with fewer weights on our tails than perhaps in other industries.
I’m lucky enough to be able to “do it all” (or what feels like it all!) but I would never pretend that I can “have it all”. Work, family, friends, and endeavours to feed the soul are all important. But it’s fair to say the pressure of these competing forces never goes away.
My message to other women today and every day is: whatever your situation: “do it all”, especially the “it” that brings you energy. Don’t focus on “having it all” at once – it’s impossible. Our life’s work is about weaving the threads of work, family, friendship, and our passions together into an imperfect but beautifully rich rug that we will be happy to look back on in years to come.
My hope for the year ahead is that we continue to talk honestly about the juggle and try to support one another however we can.
